learninglish-1

learning english has become a craze to the new generation of indians especially keralites. there are many number of sites and blogs that help you learn english but the craze remains unfulfilled as people are not ready to take any strain. if there is a will, there is a way. follow this blog on daily trial basis.

language is one of the most useful and wonderful inventions man has ever made. to communicate with others one should have a language. the one he/she learns from babyhood is his/her mother tongue. most of us are satisfied with this and the mind doesn't like to learn another language except in an indispensable circumstances. if at all one tries to learn a second language-the first being the mother tongue- he or she usually prefers english as it is an international language and as it could be a substitute for any other language. so let us have some tips on learning english as our second language.

to start with let us see how english defers from our own mother tongue say malayalam.[any indian language could be taken as an example as all indian languages have some common features]. it would be helpful for the learner to find out the similarities and differences english has with malayalam.

a remarkable feature of english is that it has two types of letters in the alphabet viz the capital letter and the small letter. this feature itself creates inconvenience in a learner as he/she is not familiar with such a phenomenon
in malayalam. i myself used to feel this inconvenience and has recently started avoiding the use of capital letters. the use of capital is an unnecessary burden because there are strict rules of usage for capital. capital letters are used on the following situations as a rule:-
a. the initial letter of a proper noun (name of a place or a person)
e.g.Mahatma Gandhi, William Shakespeare, India, New Delhi etc.
b. at the beginning of a sentence
e.g. The weather is fine.
Are you okay?
Meet me after the class.
How nice this music is!
c. the initial letters of certain offices
e.g. The Prime Minister, Chief Engineer, The Chair Person etc.
d. public notices
STICK NO BILLS, NO ADMISSION etc.
almost all the set ups and systems are are set with the above rules and even if you avoid such a rule, it wont do much good as others dont know or follow this practice. but i think this is possible if all are ready to follow this practice irrespective of the temporary inconveniences as mere small letter serves the purpose.
